17. Mosaic Fountain by the 4th Grade Class
Value: Priceless
Throughout the Iberian peninsula the courtyard is a constant part of architecture,
and every courtyard is completed with a fountain. The fountain contributes
to cooling (or the sense of cooling) and suggests the abundance of water which
is the source of food, vegetation, and life. Dominant in Iberia decorative art
is the influence of Northern Africa and Islamic art in the form of mosaic. The
4th grade class has created a fountain that employs mosaic as its decorative
focus. Each student has designed and affixed small tiles to a screen that were
then incorporated into the overall object.
The fanciful spout refers to the sea that
surrounds Iberia on 3 sides.

Diane Waters.
